What is Most Important in a Professional Work Environment?
When working for any company there are certain things that are absolutely expected of you.
Mental and physical preparedness is, in my opinion, step one to starting your work day off right. With a positive mindset and readiness to work, one will better adapt to obstacles throughout the day and maintain a more consistent work ethic. When working with teams or groups, positive thinking and conversation can spur growth and creativity. Employees who approach projects with negative or rushed thinking can absolutely diminish the progress being made. It is also very important to arrive on-site, ready to work, BEFORE your call time. I cannot express how important arriving early is; No one may say anything, but everyone notices.
While working with different types of people it can be hard to relate, but it is more important that you maintain professional and positive. While working at ESPN I came across some employees who treated me with disrespect, no matter how hard or fast I worked. It is very important not to take this personally, as people are people, and everyone is unique in handling day-to-day operations. It is unwise to talk-back or return disrespect, as it only diminishes your professionalism and reputation. I always think back to the phrase, "Kill them with kindness", as it is a great rule of thumb for a tense situation. It basically means: Be kind and work your hardest.
When working in a professional environment, it becomes critical to practice your craft. By keeping up with your workflow, software updates, growing technology, one can really stand out from the crowd. For me, I enjoy working on music projects to keep my brain moving when I am not working on broadcast television or audio post. The repetition of certain audio processes really helps me secure the workflow that I attain professionally. It is also fun and more relaxing to experiment and produce music and audio projects on the side. With positivity, professionalism, and practice one will go very far life and in any professional industry.
